The Ex Factor: Taylor Swift
Don't Pick Up the Phone
A 17-year-old Taylor Swift cozied up to Joe Jonas back in 2007. The two were coy about their relationship until it ended sometime in 2008, and all the drama unfolded. Swift famously summed up their breakup to Ellen DeGeneres: "You know what it's like, when I find that person that is right for me, he'll be wonderful. ... When I look at that person, I'm not going to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18. ... I looked at the call log — it was like 27 seconds. That's got to be a record." Then, she wrote a song about it. "Did I say something way too honest/Make you run and hide/Like a scared little boy?" she sings in "Forever and Always."
Meanwhile, Mr. Jonas defended himself on his MySpace page (Facebook wasn't around back then): "Anytime you are in a relationship for any length of time there are going to be issues. Sometimes they resolve. Other times they lead to a change of heart," he wrote. Then addressed THE phone call: "For those who have expressed concern over the '27 second' phone call, I called to discuss feelings with the other person," he wrote. "Those feelings were obviously not well received. I did not end the conversation. Someone else did. Phone calls can only last as long as the person on the other end of the line is willing to talk." Noted.
