While you’re busy checking out all the new music that dropped today, it never hurts to take a peek back at what happened this week in year’s past. Say, for instance, did you know that this week in 1986, Lady Gaga (pictured above) was born? Or that this week in 1995, iconic Hispanic pop star Selena was murdered? Take a trip back in time and revisit all (good and bad) that’s happened in music during this week.

April 2, 1939- Soul singer Marvin Gaye is born.

March 30, 1945- Legendary guitarist Eric Clapton is born.

March 29, 1959- Jane’s Addiction lead singer Perry Farrell is born.

March 30, 1962- Rapper MC Hammer is born.

March 31, 1967- Jimi Hendrix sets fire to his guitar live on stage for the first time when he is appearing at The Astoria in London, England.

March 30, 1968- Singer Celine Dion is born.

March 27, 1970- Singer Mariah Carey is born.

March 27, 1975- Pop star Fergie is born.

March 29, 1975- Led Zeppelin have all of their six albums in the Top 100 chart in the same week with their latest album Physical Graffiti at No.1.

March 30, 1979- Singer/pianist Norah Jones is born.

April 1, 1984- Marvin Gaye is shot dead by his father at his parent’s home in Los Angeles, California.

March 28, 1986- Pop star Lady Gaga is born.

March 27, 1987- U2 performs from the roof of a store in downtown LA to make the video for ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’, attracting thousands of spectators and bringing traffic to a standstill.

March 27, 1988- Pop star Jessie J is born.

April 2, 1994- Ace Of Base go to No.1 on the US album chart with The Sign.

March 31, 1995- Mexican-American singer Selena is murdered at age 23 by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Sald’var.

April 2, 1995- 2Pac starts a four-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with Me Against The World.

March 28, 2001- The artist formerly known as Puff Daddy says in an interview on MTV he now wants to be known as P. Diddy. In August 2005, he changes his stage name to simply “Diddy.”

March 29, 2007- ‘Umbrella’ by Rihanna featuring Jay-Z is released in the US.

March 27, 2008- Leona Lewis becomes the first British woman to top the US pop chart in more than 20 years with her single ‘Bleeding Love.
